Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
