No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and moved to New York City to play some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were difficult as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on the game.

The definite improvement in his skills happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would frequently challenge one another. He had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would hone his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
