Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he enjoyed betting on different card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in the above-mentioned card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost most times. He earned some additional cash by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his game happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would frequently challenge each other. He was able to access a number of the greatest minds in chess. Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena today. Howard moved to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
