Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked betting on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and moved to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were tough as he played extensive hours and don’t win most times. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could boost his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus more on poker.

The actual improvement in his abilities began when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often compete against one another. Howard was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker world today. Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following decade. When the WPT gained popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
