Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants can get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same approach in nearly all poker games.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the whole pot.

While it seems complex at first, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of play simply enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha High-Low offers an amazing collection of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high, as well as many trying for the low hand.
