Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a few entrants often get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the very same concept in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.

While it seems complex at the start, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha hi-low offers an overwhelming range of wagering options and because you have several individuals shooting for the high, along with many battling for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi-low.
